Death at Thorburn Hall by Julianna Deering

Drew Farthering arrives in idyllic Scotland for the 1935 British Open at Muirfield hoping for a relaxing vacation, but he soon finds a mystery on his hands. Lord Rainsby, his host at Thorburn Hall, fears his business partner may be embezzling and asks Drew to quietly investigate. Before Drew can uncover anything, Rainsby is killed in a suspicious riding accident.

Thorburn Hall is filled with guests, and as Drew continues to dig, he realizes that each might have had a motive. Together with Madeline and Nick, he must sort through shady business dealings, international intrigue, and family tensions to find a killer who always seems to be one step ahead.

This is book 6 in the Drew Farthering Mystery series.  While this may be read as a stand alone, I would greatly suggest that you read the series from the beginning to enjoy all of the character development and back stories that accompany all of the books in this series.  Once again, Drew is in the middle of doing nothing when a mystery lands in his lap.  It seems that no matter what he does to enjoy some down time, a mystery always seems to find him.  With a setting around the British Open in the 1930’s, this is a glimpse back in history in a way that brings a unique period in time to life all the while telling a fantastic story.

Is this a "Guys Book"?   Murder, mayhem and intrigue.  3 great components of a must read book.  Not just for men, being set during the British Open does help that, everyone will enjoy this book.  Hopefully this isn’t the end to a terrific series.

Deadly Proof by Rachel Dylan

Kate Sullivan is lead counsel in a corporate lawsuit against Mason Pharmaceutical, a company, whose new drug ruined the lives of many victims and Kate wants justice. The company is willing to commit murder to keep the truth from coming out, even kill the opposing lawyer. Landon James, a private investigator in charge of security for Kate, who will not to let anything happen to her.

Rachel Dylan, brings us a fast-paced legal thriller with characters that you take an invested interest in and root strongly for.  I’m not a detail oriented person, so I appreciated the author shorting some sequences when it was clear what was about to happen. Nothing turns me off of a book as much as fluff does.  I could throw terms out like “action-packed” and “suspenseful”, but this book is great for so many more reasons.  The message of forgiveness that Rachel wove through this story really hit home for me, it made me think that maybe she had written this just for me.

Is this a "Guys Book"?   This is considered Christian Romance with plenty of suspense and intrigue added in.  This book, and the upcoming sequels, will be enjoyed by any man or woman that is smart enough to pick up this book!

Rachel Dylan writes Christian fiction including legal romantic suspense. Rachel has practiced law for over a decade and enjoys weaving together legal and suspenseful stories. In addition, Rachel writes the Danger in the Deep South including "Lethal Action" and "Devoted Defender," which appeals to fans of edge of your seat romantic suspense. Rachel also writes the Windy Ridge series including "Trial & Tribulations" and "Fatal Accusation." These legal thrillers with elements of spiritual warfare are great for fans who enjoy books by Peretti or Dekker. "Trial & Tribulations" was a Selah finalist in 2016. Rachel lives in Michigan with her husband and five furkids-two dogs and three cats. Rachel loves to connect with readers.

Rescued Hearts by Hope Toler Dougherty

Children’s clothing designer Mary Wade Kimball’s soft spot for animals leads to a hostage situation when she spots a briar- entangled kitten in front of an abandoned house. Beaten, bound, and gagged by the two thugs inside, Mary Wade loses hope for escape when a third villain returns with supplies.

Discovering the kidnapped woman ratchets the complications for undercover agent Brett Davis. Weighing the difference of ruining his three months’ investigation against the woman’s safety, Brett forsakes his mission and helps her escape, the bent-on-revenge brutes following behind.

When Mary Wade’s safety is threatened once more, Brett rescues her again. This time, her personal safety isn’t the only thing in jeopardy. Her heart is endangered as well.

Let’s face it, Christian Suspense/Romance books have pretty much gotten repetitive.  Strong female lead gets in trouble and is rescued by strong (good-looking) male lead and they live happily ever after.  If that’s your view of what Christian Suspense/Romance has become, then you need to break out of the mold and read this exciting new book by Hope Toler Dougherty.  Yes, it starts with a strong female lead that gets rescued by a strong male lead.  The difference with this story is how these things happen and all of the terrific twists and turns that occur in between.  The suspense never lets up until the final pages, so make sure you’ve belted yourself in when you sit down to read this story!

Is this a "Guys Book"?   This book is for everyone with characters that are fully developed and a story line that never quits.  Guys will be interested in this with all the suspense and the strong writing that the author has included in this story.
