Silenced by Dani Pettrey

A relaxing day of rock climbing takes a disturbing turn when Kayden McKenna's route brings her face-to-face with a dead climber. Is it a terrible accident or something darker? When the case is handed to overburdened sheriff Landon Grainger, he turns to Jake Westin for help. With Jake's past now revealed, he's ready to use his talent for investigation again--but he could never prepare for where the mystery will take him.
Kayden's climbing expertise soon leads her and Jake to the realization that the death was no accident. And worse, it seems the killer is onto them. When strange things begin happening in Yancey, Jake is terrified that once again his world may put someone he loves in danger. But the truth is far worse than he could ever imagine.

This is the fourth book in the popular "Alaskan Courage" series by Dani Pettrey.  The series follows the adventures of the McKenna Clan and their outdoor adventures company.  Click HERE  to read a sample of the book.

Turning our attention to the middle child in the McKenna family, Kayden is out scaling the mountain side when she comes across the body of a dead climber.  Has she stumbled upon an unfortunate accident or was there much more to the case?  Now that Jake and his history is out in the open, Sheriff Grainger turns to him to assist with the new case.  With Kayden’s background in rock climbing, they pair up and soon discover this was no accident.  From one lead to another, the suspense and the red herrings keep growing right up until the explosive ending.  How will Kayden react as she puts the entire rock climbing community under the radar?  Can Jake overcome his doubts concerning his past and offer his best investigative skills?  Will these two be able to track down all of the clues to discover who the real killer is?  Strap on your rock climbing gear and repel to your closest bookstore and BUY THIS BOOK!

There are very few books out on the market today that continue to entice me to yearn for the next book in the series, especially a series with as many books as this one has (book 5 is already in the works!) Dani continues to provide us with characters that have a true love of the Lord and each other and share that love with everyone they come in contact with.  I love to see characters that are strong in their faith and use that strength to encourage all of those around them.  The plot is easily followed and believable, taking you on a wonderful tour around the Alaskan area.  I can’t wait for  the next book just to see what kind of adventures Reef and the McKenna’s get into again.

Is this a "guy's book"?  This book, this series, is a perfect example of not only a book that any guy would enjoy, but one that anyone that picks it up would enjoy as well.  There’s plenty of suspense and intrigue with just a hint of romance to make this book a definite must read by everyone.
